Position Overview

We are currently seeking a Category Specialist for our Packaging product category with strong organizational, project planning, data analysis and data management skills. Reporting to the Category Director this position will act as a liaison between the category management, sales and procurement areas. This role will help support category management by coordinating sourcing and quoting activities with and suppliers. This position will also coordinate activities with internal product line management, product positioning, pricing, asset management, business and market analysis, product safety, and provide sales support.

Responsibilities Include:

  • With direction from the Category Director, manage product line hierarchy by maintaining competitive product database include product profiles and comparisons.
  • Responsible for activities related to managing and negotiating contracts, pricing quotations and bid process.
  • Interface and coordinate with all packaging suppliers in communications, handling issues, planning, delivery, complaints, returns and supplier qualification.
  • Work on adhoc projects supporting gross margin cost improvements, financial analysis on key business issues and reporting as needed.
  • Provide marketing and sales support by managing marketing literature with suppliers.
  • Maintain on-line catalog database to support electronic sales materials.
  • Assists with product launches and product penetration programs.
  • Provide necessary sales support and product training for sales teams.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business Development or related field preferred.
  • 3-5 years of negotiations and vendor management experience (packaging industry a plus).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in project planning and data analysis.
  • Must possess strong work ethic, strong initiative and good attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize, manage multiple assignments and meet tight deadlines.
  • Must be proficient in all Microsoft applications; including excel and database management skills.
