The American National P&C Underwriting team is seeking a self-motivated, experienced business analyst focusing on personal auto and other personal lines projects, and enjoys the challenge of research, problem solving and executing tasks associated with the successful implementation of strategic projects and service requests.

Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Providing knowledge in auto, home, rental owner, business owner, boat, recreational vehicle, motorcycle, or other lines of business
  • Review current underwriting systems and processes to ensure accuracy, best practices and efficiency
  • Manage incoming requests, researching issues/production problems as they arise to identify root cause and assist with corrections as needed
  • Evaluate defects and issues for potential work arounds that are acceptable with the business stakeholders until the defect can be addressed
  • Identify and produce written business requirements and user acceptance testing criteria for department service requests and projects and collaborate with other business area BAs to assist in doing the same for product or large strategic initiatives
  • Validate requirements match the intention of the stakeholder’s needs, assess that requirements demonstrate value and communicate advantages/disadvantages of alternate solutions when applicable
  • Manage stakeholder expectations (no surprises) from beginning to end of an effort by creating and delivering on an effective communication plan
  • Work with stakeholders to assess impact, analyze cost/benefit and risk of change and prioritize changes, service requests and projects in line with the department and organization’s goals and roadmap
  • Investigate and use data analytics to determine how solutions or processes are performing after deployment and recommend improvements to support change management or maximize efficiencies as applicable
  • Serve as a liaison between Underwriting and other business areas such as Computer Technology Services (CTS), product, actuarial, and agencies
  • Complete other tasks as assigned
  • The most successful candidate must thrive in a research-focused, detail-oriented, fast-paced, business liaison role, and possess the below qualifications / attributes for consideration:

  • 4 year completed degree or equivalent work experience required, industry related designation preferred
  • Direct work experience as an Associate Underwriter, Underwriter or Business Analyst
  • Strong technical aptitude – proficient with Microsoft Office products, familiarity with underwriting systems and processes or business analyst techniques
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with all levels and business areas within the organization
  • Possess effective conflict resolution abilities
  • Maintain positive disposition and be open to ongoing education and development

    Salary for this position can range from $52,000 for candidates who are minimally qualified through $86,000 for more highly qualified candidates. Candidates outside of the range are encouraged to apply, and will be considered based on experience, skill and education.
