Position Summary

The Manager, Operational Finance role is a hybrid between managing the financial support of the operational project teams and in supporting the financial month-end close through units achieved for revenue recognition, forecasting, and variance analysis.

Essential functions of the job include but are not limited to:

  • Manage, mentor, and provide training to the financial analysts in all areas of finance project support.
  • Design, develop, and implement project financial processes to increase the efficiencies of operations in order to produce accurate and timely reporting in order to achieve the desired results.
  • Produce monthly comprehensive financial metrics to the CFO and Vice President of Operational Finance that includes, but not limited to: revenue recognition, forecasting, variance analysis, project utilization vs. project costing, consultant spend analysis, and pass through/vendor spend as compared to budget.
  • Work with the various intercompany Finance Teams in order to continuously align on the following, but not limited to: project budgets, monthly revenue, backlog, and intercompany agreements
  • Support the project teams in all financial areas associated with running a clinical trial.
  • Assist in the preparation of the monthly invoicing worksheet which is the source document for client invoicing and source of revenue recognition.
  • Perform variance analysis comparing forecasted revenue to actual revenue in order to identify gaps, changes in scope, etc.
  • Review work orders and change order budgets in comparison with actual activities in order to help identify out of scope activities. This includes, but not limited to: client, vendor, and CRO partner agreements.
  • Perform monthly EVAs in conjunction with the Project Directors/Project Managers.
  • Actively participate in the monthly project review meetings and act as the financial lead at the Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) with clients.
  • Provide support to the Vice President of Operational Finance in the review of contract documents (statements of work and change orders).
  • Work with the other members of the Finance Team to ensure the timely reporting of all monthly financial information.
  • Collaborate with others in Finance to support overall department goals and objectives.
  • Responds to inquiries from the CFO and Vice President of Operational Finance regarding financial results, special reporting requests and ad hoc analyses relating to projects.
  • Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow and internal controls.
Minimum Required

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance or related business field.
Other Required
  • A minimum of five years prior experience in project finance along with a working knowledge of all project budgets, financial project management support, Earned Value Analysis, and financial contract review.
  • Experience in the CRO industry required.
  • Direct experience in working with sponsors is required
  • Experience with Quick Books preferred.
  • Occasional travel to sponsor locations for QBRs and F2F meetings and local travel to the Precision Office for meetings should be anticipated.

Skills & Competencies
  • Strong Working knowledge of the life cycle of a project with a solid foundation of how the financials and contract status impact each stage of the clinical trial.
  • Advanced communication skills are required, as this management position will be working with internal and external customers and will need to be able to resolve issues in a way that builds customer confidence and supports the overall study team.
  • Advanced Business Acumen is required for this position. This individual must be able to see and understand the big picture and also be very detailed and have the capacity to connect the dots.
  • Advanced Excel / PC skills and able to thrive in a multi-tasking environment.
  • Strong financial and analytical skills.
  • High energy and enthusiasm with a strong commitment to exceeding expectations.
  • Flexibility and willing to work on multiple assignments of varying tasks with personnel throughout the organization.
  • Ability to learn quickly. Strong oral and written communication interpersonal skills with the ability to connect and build relationships with management and others throughout the organization.
  • Exhibits self-motivation, and is able to work and plan independently as well as in a team environment.
