Optum Advisory Services is seeking a Senior Cloud Architect to be an integral part of cloud-based data warehousing and analytics initiatives for our Health systems/Provider clients. Candidate will work with customers to define approach for the cloud data warehouse migration, review/define architecture, recommend strategies to improve resiliency, security, and optimize costs. In addition, the candidate will have significant opportunity to define the enterprise architecture and influence the roadmap for the development of a cloud based Datawarehouse/Analytics platforms and will interact directly with senior leadership. The candidate will also be expected to take the lead in deployment of new or existing applications to public cloud (Azure or AWS). This role will also be expected to pass on the learning to peers for knowledge sharing.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the cloud subject matter expert who provides strategy and architecture recommendations for the organization and leadership.
  • Oversee the cloud program from both a technical and non-technical perspective, managing a team of cloud engineers and their deliverables.
  • Serve as a senior cloud solution architect for high visibility cloud-based data warehousing and analytics initiatives
  • Create/review/update application design and deployment patterns for the public/private/hybrid cloud contexts
  • Will work with leaders and team members at all levels and across functional lines
  • Provide technical leadership in architecture, design, and engineering in modernization of legacy Data Ingestion, ETL and databases to new technologies in the Public Cloud (Azure/AWS) and Big Data Space
  • Own long-term technical roadmap ensuring alignment to org strategic initiatives & industry leadership
  • Look across teams and products to find synergies and solutioning mindset to identify/remove duplication
  • Produce solutions that are models of performance, scalability, and extensibility
  • Ideate / Solutionize next generation streaming applications to use Data as a strategic platform to grow the top line revenue
  • Stay abreast of leading-edge technologies in the industry evaluating emerging software technologies
  • Set automation standards, implements tooling to support/report adherence
  • Understand security threats and patterns comprehensively and ensures adherence to all regulatory initiatives. HIPAA, PHI, PII, locational data restrictions, contractual, etc.
  • Stay current on new industry wide threat vectors and ensures processes are updated to avoid or remediate
  • Actively mentor team members, through code reviews, brown bags, tech talks, design reviews

    Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of overall IT experience in commercial product / application design and delivery 
  • 3+ years of experience architecting cloud (Azure / AWS) solutions and related services
  • Willingness to travel up to 20%
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4-year College Degree – Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent (Math, Computer Science, or MIS)
  • 4+ years of experience in solution architecture specific to Cloud Data warehouse deployments on Azure (Synapse / Snowflake)
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with Kubernetes and general container technology (Azure Kubernetes Service, Docker containers, etc.) and microservices
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform
  • Cloud vendor certification such as Azure / AWS Certified Solutions Architect 
  • Experience designing, developing, deploying, and securing public SaaS cloud deployments 
  • Experience securing IaaS / PaaS private cloud or DevOps environments 
  • Knowledge of software Engineering best practices
  • Knowledge and experience with provisioning and enablement of Azure AI/ML capabilities using Databricks 
  • Experience in ETL, Data warehousing concepts, Code management, automated testing
  • Development experience in Big Data / Cloud eco system – ability to design, develop, document and architect Hadoop / Cloud applications
  • Hands-on experience in Python / Scala / Java / C# / NoSQL
  • Knowledge of Data Pipeline/workflow management tools such as Airflow
  • Understand stream processing with knowledge on Kafka
  • Knowledge of Azure Synapse and/or Snowflake Cloud Datawarehouse platforms
  • Knowledge of the Agile methodology for delivering software solutions
  • Knowledge and understanding of diverse platforms and operating systems, including current and emerging technologies
