Job Description

Counseling the Company on complex reinsurance transactions and use of catastrophe bond’s, including:

  • Negotiating and drafting reinsurance agreements and other ancillary documents while considering applicable regulatory, reporting, and accounting requirements; and
  • Providing advice and counsel regarding questions of coverage and loss.
  • Counseling the Company’s division charged with administering discontinued lines of business, which can involve:

  • Advising on coverage afforded by domestic and international reinsurance agreements, both current and in runoff, assessing coverage for environmental claims on primary policies, and securing coverage for claims covered under government-sponsored indemnification vehicles; and
  • Providing guidance on third party insurance and reinsurance insolvencies and corporate restructuring initiatives, including domestic and international liquidations, schemes of arrangement and portfolio transfers.
  • Providing oversight of the arbitration and litigation of disputes involving reinsurance. 
  • Supporting the Government & Industry Relations Group as needed with respect to legislative efforts – state, federal and international – impacting insurance insolvency and reinsurance.
  • Job Qualifications

    • License to practice law in a U.S. jurisdiction.
    • 7+ years related experience within a reputable law firm or an in-house legal department for a mid- to large-sized insurance or reinsurance organization.
    • Reinsurance contracting and transactional experience, including experience drafting insurance policy language, reinsurance agreements, trust agreements and other ancillary reinsurance contracts. 
    • Experience in analyzing insurance coverage for latent tort claims under property and casualty insurance policies including personal lines, excess and surplus, umbrella and commercial policies.
    • Experience in, or willingness to learn about, investments transactions including private equity and other complex business transactions is highly desired.
    • Strong organizational, analytical, and critical-thinking skills, as well as the ability to identify and resolve legal issues.

    Compensation Data

    Compensation range for this position is $112,800 to $190,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications

    ***This position is also "bonus eligible"
