About the role

Are you interested in building, and improving, complex online environments visited by hundreds of millions of unique monthly users? Are you passionate about building core services that will be used by development teams across Zillow Group? At Zillow Group we Move Fast and Think Big! We are seeking a Principal Technical Program Manager to drive the evolution of our Tech Vision, providing thought leadership while driving the delivery of initiatives that raise engineering discipline across Zillow.

Our ideal candidate already possesses a strong program management background, has already demonstrated experience leading large projects across 20+ teams, and has a well-rounded technical background in current web technologies. As a Principal TPM, you will be comfortable driving change, developing strategic technical initiatives, while able to dive deep through the use of data when vital.

As a Principal TPM you will anticipate bottlenecks, provide escalation management, anticipate and make tradeoffs, and balance business needs versus constraints. An ability to navigate sophisticated systems and initiatives, breaking them down into manageable pieces, develop functional specifications, then deliver them in a successful and timely manner. Maturity, high judgment, skills, ability to influence, analytical talent, and leadership are critical to success in this role.

Beyond being successful, you’ll thrive if you relish crafting clarity from ambiguity (at a company-level) and you take pride in driving complex cross-team programs while aligning to company and engineering strategy.

  • 2+ years of experience leading dev teams to design/architect business software solutions

  • A first-hand working knowledge of current web development technologies and service oriented architecture

  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills, as well as the ability to think clearly, analyze quantitatively, problem-solve, scope technical requirements, and prioritize tasks

  • Strong business and technical vision (and the ability to communicate that vision clearly)

  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • A deep understanding of software development in a team, and a track record of shipping software on time

  • Exceptional customer relationship skills, including the ability to discover the true requirements underlying feature requests, recommend alternative technical and business approaches, and lead engineering efforts to meet bold timelines with optimal solutions

  • Preferred:

  • PMP or Project Management Certification

  • Familiarity with building large scale solutions across many integrated and distributed systems, with great availability, performance, and security

  • In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location.
