This leadership position will report to UnitedHealth Group's Senior Vice President of Strategic Insights and lead a team accountable for digital market and competitive intelligence, trends, digital product research, behavioral insights, usability research, and insights activation across UnitedHealth Group. The leader will be responsible for setting the vision for digital research strategy, identifying and scaling cutting-edge research capabilities, building collaborative relationships across the enterprise, influencing digital strategy and decision making across lines of business, cultivating a high performing and trusted team, and courageously communicating insights that drive action at all levels of leadership across UnitedHealthcare, Optum, and UnitedHealth Group.

Primary Responsibilities:

Infuse Digital Research & Insights into discover, design, and launch phases for all digital products and experiences

  • Champion the voice of consumer, patient, clinician, and client to guide digital strategy and business priorities
  • Guide digital product pipeline development across Enterprise and all business lines, utilizing research and insights
  • Infuse consumer, patient, clinician, and client empathy at all points across product development lifecycle
  • Leverage research and insights to uncover needs and optimize digital experiences for all consumer journeys
  • Synthesize "whole person" insights from across the Strategic Insights Group and apply to all digital activities
  • Drive insights to activation through effective executive communications, narratives, and thought leadership

Establish and evolve world-class Digital Research and Insights capabilities

  • Partner with leadership across Digital, Product, Experience, and Design functions to build a best-in-class, efficient, and scalable digital research and insights system that meets the needs of all functions and businesses.
  • Lead comprehensive digital health care market and competitive intelligence
  • Enhance Foresight, utilizing key consumer, market, and technology trends to discover future growth opportunities
  • Elevate and scale behavioral science insights capabilities and incorporate into research designs
  • Utilize ethnographic research techniques and other best-in-class human centered research capabilities
  • Establish a quantitative concept testing platform to be leveraged across UHG digital properties
  • Lead consumer co-creation, in close partnership with digital design, product, and experience leaders
  • Work with business partners to enhance enterprise strategy and operating model for user research testing
  • Curate strategic vendor partnerships to ensure utilization of leading edge insights capabilities

Team Leadership and Organizational Influence & Impact

  • Authentically lead and develop a highly effective, trusted team of insights professionals
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Digital and Design Leadership teams to develop long term digital investment strategies
  • Strategic Partner to Enterprise Digital and Design Leaders, serving on Enterprise Digital Leadership team, and supporting or co-leading strategic priorities
  • Influence senior leaders and collaborate effectively across a large matrixed organization, including UnitedHealth Group, Optum, and UnitedHealthcare business leaders
  • Thrive in ambiguity, connecting dots across the matrixed enterprise to engineer solutions and lead change
  • Translate the Complex - Distill, simplify, and translate the complex in order to drive action
  • Manage digital research and insights budget

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 10+ years of experience in Market Research or Consumer Insights
  • 5+ years of experience in Digital (strategy, insights, and/or product development)
  • 5+ years of experience directly leading high performing teams
  • 2+ years experience with user research / usability testing

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Front End Innovation or Product Design
  • Healthcare, financial services, or retail industry experience an asset (not required)
  • Advanced degree preferred
