The Role

The Google Cloud Principal Architect will be a key member of the Cloud Center of Excellence (CCoE). Our Hybrid Multi-Cloud strategy requires a technical leader that will operate within the CCOE as a critical participant providing governance, design, process, and technical capabilities. They will lead partnerships with Product, Engineering, Operations, and Support teams to help design, develop and implement resilient, scalable, cost-effective solutions for a Hybrid Multi-Cloud environment. As a recognized expert in their field, the Cloud Architect also serves as a guide and subject matter expert for Senior and Lead Cloud Engineers as they work to create a critical impact for the organization.

The Main Responsibilities

  • Refine, evangelize, and deliver on Lumen’s multi-cloud operating model vision and strategy
  • Partner with Enterprise Architecture and Platform teams lead deep architectural discussions related to the use of Google Cloud Platform
  • Provide leadership implementing new solutions, migrating existing applications, software, and services
  • Create blueprints for hybrid cloud infrastructures incorporating network, compute, storage, middleware, and cloud-native features
  • Embrace and evangelize the Hybrid Multi-Cloud Operating Model and Strategic Roadmap
  • Provide architectural leadership and oversight of delivery throughout implementation
  • Support Lumen’s transition to the public cloud in a high-value migration approach that adheres to Hybrid Multi Cloud designs and practices
  • Evolve and drive our automation capabilities by enabling a DevOps and SRE culture
  • Conduct deep-dive “hands-on” education/training sessions to transfer knowledge to internal stakeholders interested in GCP
  • Lead the adoption of Cloud practices and drive the institutionalization of the practices
  • Identify risk and mitigation plans associated with security, legal, data, compliance, and regulatory requirements
  • Lead delivery engagements as the hands-on GCP subject matter expert to solve customer problems and produce excellent outcomes
  • Contribute to the development of internal best practices as well as new innovative consulting capabilities
  • What We Look For in a Candidate

  • 10+ years experience in combined roles of application development, enterprise or technical architecture, cloud platform development, cloud strategy, IT strategy, or infrastructure
  • 3+ years of experience with “on-premises to cloud” migrations or IT transformations
  • 3+ years of experience architecting/operating solutions built on GCP
  • 2+ years "Hands-on" experience with orchestration/automation platforms and tools (Morpheus, Terraform, Ansible, Chef, etc.)
  • Deep understanding of the current state of the art for infrastructure automation, continuous integration/deployment, SQL/NoSQL/NewSQL, networking, and cloud-based delivery models
  • Deep knowledge of deploying secure applications using containers
  • Hands-on experience with adjacent technology areas including Security, Identity / Access Management and Monitoring
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software development tools and methodologies
  • Desire to be able to function as engineer or architect in Azure or AWS
  • Experience leading others in a large, highly complex and ever-changing organization; preferably in a hybrid cloud environment.
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency, accountability and holding your partners to the same standard
  • Education:

    Bachelors or equivalent work experience
