About the role

We are seeking a Principal Applied Scientist to operate in a novel space and craft the next generation of NLP solutions that will lead our vision. In this role, you will be encouraged to think creatively and challenge established assumptions and expectations, not by building on what we already have, but coming up with new insights that fuel innovation. You will build models and insights from data to guide the future of Zillow's agent business and develop highly engaging user experiences.

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice which must be identified to the Company. Employees may live in any of the 50 US States, with limited exceptions. In certain cases, an employee in a remote-designated job may need to live in a specific region or time zone to support customers or clients as part of their role.

Who you are

We're looking for someone who is both a leader that empowers and guides team members, but also a roll-up-the-sleeves and get it done technical expert. More specifically, you should have the following:

  • 8+ years of experience with natural language processing
  • At least 5 years in machine learning or applied science/research in academia or industry
  • A Ph.D. in a field like Computational Linguistics will set you apart!
  • Outstanding communication skills and interest in collaborating with other scientists and engineers
  • Expertise with a high-level programming language such as Python or Java
  • Experience training machine learning models in frameworks like PyTorch
  • Resourcefulness to identify business challenges and formulate machine learning solutions methodically
  • Interest in unofficially mentoring junior scientists on the team when questions arise 
  • In additional to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location.
