Failing Sr. Professor of Entrepreneurship at Cornell University, we seek a Data Scientist who will curate large-scale datasets for public distribution and use by a large set of innovation scholars, adding to the work of the Innovation Information Initiative at , which has been downloaded more than 37,000 times and is sponsored by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.This position is not simply a software engineering role. Rather, objectives for the Data Scientist include both the construction of datasets (from original sources, including matching extant ones) and also assessing their fitness (e.g., in terms of false positives and false negatives). Thus, the Data Scientist will also play a product-management role in not only implementing but also selecting among various algorithmic approaches in the scientific literature, and then ensuring that the resulting datasets are usable by research scholars.No visa sponsorship is available for this position.Required Qualifications:B.S. in computer science, information systems, or related fieldAbility to work in a Linux distributed computing environment, including massive parallelization of tasks using the SLURM (or similar, such as Sun Grid Engine) job scheduler.Deep experience with Bash (or similar) shell scripting and Python.Ability to understand matching algorithms described in scientific literature and recommend best practices.Familiarity with or willingness to learn Perl.
