The VP Payer Relations and Partnerships will create and execute on cross-functional strategic framework that drives the development and delivery of integrated provider models and other risk or value/incentive-based provider partnerships in the West Region. This position will work with local, regional, and national teams to ensure that the creation of new programs or arrangements with provider systems or other partners is scalable to UHC.

Additionally, this role will have responsibility for collaborating with UHG legislative, regulatory and other functional leaders to ensure health plan compliance, with particular focus on provider networks and products based on high performing networks as key strategic compliance mechanisms. (i.e. Public Options). This role is critical to ensuring successful execution of our key business priorities for the west region's continued growth.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Ability to independently and collaboratively create and drive both regional and market level strategies that further the collaboration of integrated provider programs in specific markets, as well as the delivery of other market programs (including regulatory programs or initiatives). Measure the success of each initiative and make recommendations towards implementation to other segments or markets, when necessary.
  • Assist in the development and alignment of the value proposition of our high performing network programs
  • Collaborate and strategize with both internal and external stakeholders to deliver successful programs (including Providers, Sales, Network Management, Clinical, Pricing/Actuarial, Legal, Finance, Operations, Regulatory, etc)
  • Create consistent plans/structures that will allow us to rapidly replicate, adapt and scale the build out of these types of programs and products based on learnings in the local markets.
  • Act both independently and collaboratively as the liaison between provider partners and UHC as it relates to integrated programs
  • Establish and participate in applicable steering and governance committees. Provide on-going leadership, support, and maintenance at the market level for such defined initiatives
  • Assist with the project management and continuous development of such initiatives by developing processes, providing support, a roadmap for on-going strategies/products that facilitate compliance with State regulation and legislation.
  • Ensure that all strategies and projects/products align with national and regional business plan objectives
  • Stay connected to other regional or national initiatives that may be of value to provider collaborative products or other regional products in general
  • Lead and influence within a matrix organization
  • Provide constant and consistent communication to all stakeholders
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • 8+ years of experience in healthcare/health insurance, provider network contracting, or product development. A combination of any of these areas is highly desirable, with an emphasis on provider contracting familiarity
  • 2+ years of experience in program/project tracking and planning projects
  • Project management experience with the ability to manage the work throughout a highly matrixed organization
  • Intermediate knowledge of health plan products and the process for which they are built and knowledge of all lines of business offered by UHC
  • Proficiency with MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint

  • Demonstrable leadership skills in a matrixed structure where team members are not direct reports
  • Solid judgement skills to balance and prioritize differing organizational needs and make decisions on business needs and group objectives
  • Skilled in the art of negotiation and the ability to build consensus
