This is position is for a Scrum Master in the PolicyCenter Production Support / Maintenance organization (aka Alpha Team). The Alpha team is passionate for technology and strives to build well architected and innovative solutions for the business. Commercial Lines, including the Alpha Team has adopted the Scaled Agile - Scrum development methodology and core DevOps engineering practices such as continuous integration and test driven development.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The PolicyCenter Production Support / Maintenance team is seeking motivated, results oriented individuals with strong technical and leadership skills for the role of a Scrum Master. The responsibilities of a Scrum Master include:
Ensures Scrum Team adheres to Scrum principles and best practicesEnables and helps those outside the Scrum Team (development team) understand which of their interactions with the Scrum Team are helpful and which aren’t. Helps everyone change these interactions to maximize the value created by the Scrum Team.Understands product planning in an inspect and adapt environment, and ensures the Product Owner knows how to arrange the Product Backlog to maximize valueProvides information regarding team health: people, process, progress and overall satisfaction to Technology and Business Leaders Coaches the team members to practice effective ScrumRemoves impediments for the team and escalate appropriatelyInsulates Scrum Team from distractions or disruptionCoaches the Product Owner, Development Team, Technology and Business Leaders on Scrum values, principles and best practicesPartners with the Product Owner, IT Delivery Lead and Business leadership to form execution delivery plans and manage progressAssess the Scrum Maturity of the team and organization and coaching the team to higher levels of maturity, at a pace that is sustainable and comfortable for the team and organization Facilitates Release PlanningIdentifies and resolves gaps in skills, processes, and resourcesBuild a trust and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, or being judged, with an emphasis of healing and problem solving. Provide all support to the team using a servant leadership style whenever possible, and leading by example
QUALIFICATIONS:
Degree in Computer Science or related disciple with a minimum of 3-5 years of work experience in IT development as a Scrum MasterFirst level Scrum Master certification (CSM, PSM I) Experience playing the Scrum Master role for at two years for a software development team that was diligently applying Scrum principles, practices, and theory. Good skills and knowledge of servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparencyKnowledge of numerous well documented patterns and techniques for filling in the intentional gaps left in the Scrum approach(example: numerous Burndown techniques, numerous Retrospective formats, handling bugs, etc)Must be a dynamic and self-starting individual who is able to work independently or as part of a team with minimal guidance and directionMust be able to effectively prioritize and assign work in order to meet deadlinesKnowledge of other Agile approaches: XP, Kanban, Crystal, FDD is a plusKnowledge and/or experience with widely successful Agile techniques: User Stories, ATDD, TDD, Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, Pairing, Automated Testing, Agile Games is a plusExperience or Exposure of leading software development teams in technologies such as Java, Mobile frameworks including Bootstrap and AngularJS, JBOSS & WebLogic is a plus.Understanding of Guidewire’s PolicyCenter application is a plus.Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees.
