Common App is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the pursuit of access, equity, and integrity in the college admission process. Each year we support more than 1 million students, one-third of whom are first-generation, as they apply to our nearly 900 diverse member college & universities using the Common App's free online application. If you have experience in community engagement and events management with a particular passion for encouraging and support first-generation students and students from low-income families navigate their path to and through this process, our Manager Community Outreach & Engagement position could be the right fit for you!

The Manager for Community Outreach & Engagement supports the Student Advocacy and Engagement department and Common App’s Reach Higher initiatives that focus on inspiring and supporting every student, particularly first-generation students and students from low-income families, to pursue education beyond high school. This person manages select external relationships for the organization, including but not limited to students, digital media influencers, celebrities, student groups, elected officials, and other stakeholders. The individual in this role strategically develops long-lasting external relationships to inform programming that encourage students to pursue higher education. Additionally, the manager designs, plans and executes even programing to support the Common App, Reach Higher and Better Make Room brands. The manager engages stakeholders to become more involved in organizational opportunities and seeking new opportunities for strategic engagement for Common App and Reach Higher. They may also manage additional staff and interns as needed.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in education, public relations, communication, marketing, other related field with three or more years of experience in event management, community engagement, public relations, or marketing. Individuals must demonstrate their ability to build relationships with influencers, celebrities, and community groups with exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Candidates must also possess flexible approaches and problem-solving skills with outstanding organization skills, keen attention to detail, and ability to successfully manage multiple stakeholders and priorities. Common App is a virtual environment, individuals must work effectively as an individual and team member in a highly collaborative, diverse, virtual environment. A passion for higher education is a plus.
