Summary

From an Associate position, and working with minimal supervision, functions as a member of various multi-disciplinary teams with moderately complex assignments in Clinical and Business Information Technologies. The Interface Engineer will be supporting and building HL7 interfaces between various clinical and non clinical systems. They are responsible for analyzing and negotiating HL7 specifications for new interfaces, as well as coordinating testing. This is a highly visible role in the information systems department and as such requires highly developed interpersonal skills. The senior level demonstrates advanced analytical skills, technical and business knowledge. Takes initiative and given latitude for independent judgment to resolve urgent problems. Acts with sound judgement when necessary to resolve emergencies. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and to consistently exercise sound judgment and initiative in a wide range of circumstances.
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge in Interface Engines, HL7 scripting and two or more programming languages, Healthcare operations, process improvement, and application of technology to improve patient outcomes.
  • Highly skilled and proficient knowledge of and experience with build tools of the electronic medical record, and other clinical systems.
  • Participates in Project team work, and consistently completes all assigned project tasks on time.
  • Ability to travel any area of the organization, both local and remote as needed. Must provide own transportation.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and prepare moderately complex written materials such as software documentation.4
  • Advanced Knowledge of HL7 and FHIR Standards.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing information management concepts and methods to non-technical users.
  • Advanced Knowledge of system redundancy, backup and recovery procedures.
  • Advanced Knowledge of Unix command language.
  • Advanced Knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office.

  • Design and develop the electronic data interchange (HL7) system and operations.
  • Analyze client requirements for the electronic exchange of information, and ensure that client systems and internal systems are compatible and connected.
  • Write detailed descriptions of user needs, program functions, and steps required to develop or modify EDI programs.
  • Conduct testing of information exchange to validate data.
  • Monitor and maintain electronic data interchange (HL7) systems and transactions to ensure proper function and accuracy.
  • Conduct analysis of HL7 transactions and prepare documentation and reports.
  • Respond to issues related to HL7 orders, ADT, Results, or other transactions.
  • Provide technical support during and after implementation for electronic data interchange applications.
  • Physical Requirements

  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position are: light work - exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
