The primary focus of this role will be electrical hardware design of specialized remote sensing systems for National Security applications.Job duties include conceptualization, requirements development, circuit design, modeling and simulation, prototype development, design definition documentation, qualification/acceptance testing, process development and execution, system deployment support, and system sustainment activities. It is essential to have an in-depth understanding of mixed-signal (RF, analog, digital) electrical sub-systems.Projects range from urgent, quick-reaction requests in response to real-world driven needs to longer term, life-critical efforts with meticulous development requirements. This position requires occasional travel of 6-8 trips per year.On any given day you may be called on to: Research, develop, analyze and/or field test remote sensing systems Design and simulate analog, RF, digital, optical, and mixed-signal circuits Own the PCB layout, fabrication, and assembly process Test/tune components and circuits Specify and perform/coordinate the purchase of parts Design, assemble, test, and fix embedded electronics systems and cables Develop requirements, test/acceptance procedures, and document design definition Document and coordinate the transition of designs to 3rd party production partners Manage junior members of staff/technologists/contractors in the execution of the above Qualifications We Require Master's degree in a relevant engineering field plus 6 years' related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience (BS plus 10 years') Experience with general test and measurement equipment, RF test equipment, and/or optical test equipment Experience with instrumentation control for data acquisition, processing, and automation Experience designing, developing, and integrating custom embedded electronics Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance Qualifications We Desire System and sub-system engineering to include communication and/or power Digital signal processing background with experience in data acquisition and optimizing processing routines Mixed signal digital, RF/Microwave/Optical, and analog hardware design including schematic capture and layout of high density printed wiring assemblies incorporating micro-controllers and single-board CPUs Experience with commercial RF/microwave circuit simulation and antenna design tools such as HFSS, ADS, CST, Momentum, Genesys, FEKO, IE3D, etc. Experience with the following software: Python, C/C++, VHDL, Matlab/Simulink, or equivalent Experience with analog/digital simulation tools: LTSpice, OrCAD PSpice, TINA, or equivalent Knowledge of RF, Digital Communications, radar, and/or EW systems and principles Experience planning, coordinating, and documenting field tests Ability to lead both small and large development teams (two-to-eight members) Good communication and documentation skills Great presentation skills with interest and ability to interact with internal and external customersAbout Our TeamWe research and develop new science applications, models, and technologies to solve the Nation's counter-proliferation challenges.
