We seek a biotech PhD patent agent who resides in the U.S. to help us on various biotech patent projects for our clients, which are mostly private life sciences companies with an array of exciting cutting-edge technologies. The projects include patent preparation and prosecution, patent searching, analysis and landscaping, and assistance with IP due diligence. The position requires a life sciences Master's degree or preferably PhD, with deep understanding of molecular and cellular biology, and the equivalent of at least 1 year of patent preparation and prosecution experience, although we prefer a licensed U.S. patent agent with at least 2 years of patent preparation and prosecution experience at an established traditional law firm. The candidate needs to bring a positive attitude and work efficiently and effectively in a remote environment as a member of our coordinated team.

The candidate can work either as a 1099 consultant, with no billable hour requirements, or as a part-time or full-time salaried employee, if that is important to you. Either way, candidates should have a set weekly schedule of 20 to 40 hours per week. At least 3/4 of your hours must be during the normal central time zone workday. You must be willing and able to work on urgent projects as well from time to time depending on client demands, which could require you to work some weekend hours and some weekday hours outside your pre-arranged schedule.

Double Helix law is and has always been a virtual biotech patent law firm that provides high quality patent work to our clients who enjoy our deep biotech technical and patent law experience, as well as our business and investor-focused perspective. Our relationship is closer with our client than most traditional law firms, which gives us a pseudo-in-house perspective. This is made possible by our lower billable rates, which results from our virtual and progressive business model that has lower overhead costs. Although we still have to meet the high demands of our cutting-edge clients, our consultants enjoy a better quality of life because of the flexible, remote schedule and positive work environment, combined with the ability to learn under the close guidance of Manny Vacchiano, a 20+ year experienced patent attorney.
