The Global Import/Export Classification Manager for the Diagnostics Platform is responsible for tariff and ECCN classifications and ADD/CVD applicability of products across the diagnostic operating companies globally. As part of the shared Trade Compliance legal team of Subject Matter Experts and reporting to the Diagnostics Platform Trade Compliance Leader, this role is responsible for developing, executing, and managing export and import trade compliance program across all OpCo’s within the Platform globally.

This position will be located in Brea, CA or Remote will be considered. Our vision is to build overall trade compliance so our Diagnostics companies will win the right way.

This role has the opportunity to:

  • Perform new product reviews with classification and document clear rationale to support new product introductions;
  • Interact with data sources, technical experts, engineers, product and sourcing managers and others to obtain and interpret the data (including specification documents, schematics, product descriptions and other technical data) necessary for accurate classification;
  • Develop and seek 3rd party classification reviews when needed;
  • Defend classification assignments using clear, concise and technically accurate presentations for global users;
  • Perform classification accuracy audits and reviews and recommend countermeasures for corrective action;
  • Maintain classification support applications for dissemination and application of classification data;
  • Monitor updates to classification schedule changes and partner with OpCo Trade Compliance teams to assess the impact on the OpCos systems and processes and modify classification processes and procedures to ensure compliance;
  • Develop standard work and conduct training to support internal education on product classification and related core customs compliance matters.
  • The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 9+ years’ experience in related field OR Master’s Degree and 7+ years OR Doctorate and 4+ years in same.
  • In-depth knowledge of the General Rules of Interpretation, US and non-US Harmonized Tariff Schedules including EU and China.
  • In depth knowledge of US and non-US Export Control Classification determinations: EAR, Dual Use, etc.
  • Deep familiarity with the HTS schedules for chemicals, machines and measurement sections.
  • Excellent communication skills demonstrating strong critical thinking skills with the ability to clearly present complicated technical concepts to global users. 
  • This would be a plus:

  • Degree in Chemistry, Biology or Biomedical Engineering, or Technology for understanding of research and diagnostic products and their functions;
  • Advanced MS Excel skills and programming familiarity to support classification applications;
  • Experience with ERP, and/or Trade Software.
