JOB SUMMARYThe Garage Underwriting Specialist acts as a subject matter expert regarding policy and coverage interpretation, and is responsible for reviewing, evaluating, and rating insurance applications for new and/or renewal business within assigned line(s) of business while applying general underwriting guidelines and standards. Generates insurance quotes based upon the level of risk associated and distributes it to the appropriate sales representative. This position is primarily responsible for production of commercial package policies for auto dealerships and auto repair operations. Assists with training and mentoring new hires.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned)Process and underwrite new and/or renewal business by reviewing, evaluating, and rating applications and supplemental information for insurance; adhere to all underwriting guidelines and standards; ensure applications are processed within defined time tables.Handle complex rating situations and provides coverage interpretations; Act as a subject matter expert in policy and coverage interpretation at all levels.Communicate with sales representatives and outside retailers when additional information is needed in order to complete the underwriting process.Determine degree of risk associated with applicant by analyzing factors such as the client/potential client's years of experience, prior claims history, internal management controls, etc.Determine whether to accept, modify terms, adjust rate to ensure adequate premium for exposure, non-renew, cancel, or decline risks. Utilize underwriting tools to determine proper rates, classifications, and changes.Generate quotes based upon the level of risk associated with the applicant; distribute the completed quote to the appropriate sales representative or retailers.Refer to the insurance carrier if it falls outside of Pearl's underwriting authority; follow up with the carrier on outstanding referrals; once referral is answered by the carrier, communicate with the sales representative by providing a quote, indication, or declination.Process revised and/or additional quotes as required.Answer policy, quote, and other miscellaneous questions from external and internal customers.Maintain account information, documentation, referral notes, event logging, complete underwriting files, etc. in various systems and databases.Assist with training and mentoring new hires including Underwriters and sales representatives and provide policy guidance and training to the garage underwriting technicians.Periodically evaluate department procedures and recommend changes to management.Meet production quotas and quality standards as set forth by management; work towards meeting renewal retention rate goals, new business written volumes, and threshold goals.Serve as the main point of contact for retailers during the new business and renewal quoting processes.QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Experience:Bachelor's degree in Business Management and Administration or a related field preferred; 3+ years of previous garage policy underwriting experience utilizing Siebel or other Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system or equivalent combination of education and experience.Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to interface effectively at all levels within an organization.Strong analytical skills with ability to analyze and interpret information effectively.Certifications and Licenses:CPCU or other insurance designations preferred
