This equipment is used to manufacture high quality plastic products for science research and medical use. This position requires the application of engineering principles to develop manufacturing equipment such as machinery, controls, robots, vision, packaging equipment, measurement systems etc. A key role will be to manage a project from design through implementation that will be targeted for commissioning into a new facility. This position requires knowledge in process development, machine design and supplier management. Experience in pipette tip manufacturing and packaging automation is desirable.RESPONSIBILITIES: Works as a member of cross functional Product Development team, ensuring the needs of internal and external customers are met within schedule and budget and DFMA principles are utilized.Develops project plans and capital appropriations requests. Prepares schedules and budgets and tracks progress throughout the project cycle.Project Lead development of equipment specifications and interacts with various suppliers in obtaining quotations, awarding purchase orders (working through TMO sourcing), approving automation designs and coordinating manufacturing of newly designed automation equipment. Acts as the primary supplier contact.Develops Process Flow Diagrams, PFMEA and Process Control Plans. Communicates effectively within team and engineering management on manufacturing process.Develops and executes FAT, IQ, OQ and PQ validation plansPrepares final machine documentation, including engineering drawings, work instructions, procedures and operator manuals.Trains internal personnel as needed.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:• BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related disciplineEXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:Minimum 5 years related experience in the development of Discreet Manufacturing Processes and/or Automation Equipment. Experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industries is preferred.Experience in pipette tip manufacturing and handling is preferredExperience in end of line product packaging automation is preferredSound business acumen and demonstrated ability to protect company interests when dealing with outside suppliersExcellent business and technical writing skills, verbal communications skills, and the ability to work as part of a teamMust be capable of detecting potential process or equipment issues and providing direction to suppliers on both Mechanical and Controls Engineering as it relates to automation systems. This does not necessarily require complete expertise in both areas but does require enough understanding of both disciplines to make sound decisions and drive appropriate actions.Proficient and up to date with current Mechanical or Controls design software tools and Microsoft Project, Word and Excel.Strong analytical skills and knowledge of structured problem-solving techniques, such as Six Sigma greenbelt experience or certificationFamiliar with statistical software to help ensure process and product excellence. Proficient in the use of MiniTab is preferred.Familiar with using Autocad and/or Solidworks design packages.Demonstrated experience managing suppliers of automated equipment solutionsExperience in Mechanical or Controls Engineering on automation equipment. Demonstrated ability to work directly with external suppliers to solve problems related to both controls and mechanical issues.Demonstrated experience as the Manufacturing Engineer on a Cross-Functional Product Development Team, or responsible for the Development of Equipment used in the Manufacturing Process.Hands-on experience with problem-solving automated equipment systemsAbility to travel domestically and internationally (up to 30% of the time).NOTE:This role will be remotely based in North Carolina immediately, but will directly support the construction of a new facility in Mebane, NC. We anticipate that this individual will begin to work permanently on site in mid to late 2022.
