Job Description

The Talent Insights team derives actionable insight from data to recommend and implement better ways of attracting, developing, and retaining our talent so that we can better serve our clients and drive bottom-line impact. Our goal is to increase our analytical capabilities and derive actionable insights into our critical business issues, as well as create a scalable data infrastructure and user-friendly reporting environment that can effectively support our growing company.

The People Scientist will deliver insightful and impactful people research and analysis to help inform and influence people-related strategies across the business at SVB. This role will utilize quantitative skills and data science techniques to perform people research in support of a wide spectrum of HR functions and business divisions to address critical people issues and questions.

This position will report directly to the Director, Talent Insights.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Partner with multiple HR functions, business leaders, and other cross-functional teams on people analytic projects to understand critical people/business issues and related people/business processes. Apply this information to design and execute data analysis that is right sized, accurate, and timely.
  • Drive the execution of applied research projects in support of people strategy and insights, inclusive of:Access and extract data from multiple HR data sources and/or external data and research as relevant.Manipulate, transform, and combine multiple data sources to execute relevant analyses. Utilize tools and programming languages such as SQL, SAS, R, or Python to execute data management and analyses.Ensure an accurate, documented, and repeatable process from ETL through analysis.
  • Create story-driven data insights utilizing best fit mediums, including PowerPoints and interactive dashboarding solutions. Communicate statistical analyses and results to both technical and non-technical audiences as needed.
  • Proactively identifies opportunities for people research projects using advanced analytics and/or building infrastructure to enable future analyses.
  • Adhere to and enforce rigorous data integrity and privacy standards.
  • Minimum Qualifications

  • BA/BS in Statistics, Data Science, Analytics, Economics, or similar studies that emphasizes data analysis.
  • 3+ years experience in an analytics, data science, or similar role in an organization or consulting environment. 
  • 3+ years experience determining best fit and applying statistical methods such as regressions, causal inferences techniques, multivariate statistical models, etc. to people and/or business issues in medium to large scale organizations.
  • 3+ years experience using SAS, R, or Python tools to manage and analyze structured and unstructured data. Must have intermediate skills in writing and reading in SAS, R, SQL, or Python languages. 
  • Experience using Excel, including creating conditional formulas, pivot tables and reports, VLOOKUPs, charts and graphs, and other formulas and functions in support of data analyses.
  • Experience building presentations in PowerPoint designed to communicate analytic results to Executive levels.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters in Statistics, Data Science, Analytics, Economics, or similar studies that emphasizes data analysis.
  • Experience in an analytics, data science, or similar role within a HR function, People Analytics function, or consulting environment supporting people research/analytics.
  • Preferred experience with building dashboards in data visualizations tools (ex. Workday Dashboards, Microsoft Power BI, and/or Tableau). 
  • Experience and knowledge of survey design and analysis.
