Investigates, evaluates, and resolves a claims pending predominately consisting of claims arising from asbestos exposures. Provides a superior level of customer service to internal and external business partners. Administers and resolves claims in a timely manner and in accordance with legal statutes, policy provisions, and company guidelines. This position is typically assigned claims that have the highest loss and expense exposures which includes tier 1 and tier 2 asbestos litigation, and most difficult coverage issues and includes a diary of predominantly litigated files. Possesses a superior level of litigation management expertise.

  • In accordance with regulatory, statutory, and established company guidelines, promptly investigates all assigned claims for coverage issue identification, liability assessment, damages evaluation subrogation, and contribution potential.
  • Within granted authority, establishes appropriate loss and expense reserves with documented rationale. Maintains and adjusts reserves over the life of the claim to reflect changes in exposure. Notifies appropriate claim management when exposure exceeds authority. Negotiates claims resolution within granted authority.
  • Establishes and executes appropriate action plans for claim resolution including loss cost management while achieving appropriate financial balance between allocated expense and loss outcome.
  • Insures appropriate loss and expense allocations are made on a timely basis to all impacted policies.
  • Works collaboratively with multiple internal and external professionals and business partners in investigating and reaching appropriate disposition of all claims.
  • Within stated authority, selects and manages service vendors to achieve appropriate balance between allocated expense and loss outcome. Pursues cost sharing arrangements with co-defendant carriers as necessary and appropriate.
  • Maintains a very strong working knowledge of applicable regulatory and jurisdictional requirements.
  • Demonstrates technical proficiency through timely, consistent execution of best claim practices and established claims handling guidelines.
  • Demonstrates and executes a superior and pro-active expertise in litigation management
  • Communicates effectively with internal and external customers on claims, account, and reserving issues.
  • Maintains and manages a diary system and claim pending to effectively resolve all claims and in adherence with established guidelines.
  • Manages litigation to achieve appropriate financial outcomes. Effectively manages defense counsel to properly protect the insured and PMA interests.
  • Participates with claims management in the counsel evaluation process of staff and panel counsel. Makes recommendations for the addition / deletion of counsel. May travel as required for attendance at depositions, mediations, and trials.
  • Prepare and submits reinsurance reports.
  • Prepare quarterly reports on Asbestos and Environmental reserves and case analysis.
  • Demonstrate commitment to Company's Code of Business Conduct and Ethics, and apply knowledge of compliance policies and procedures, standards and laws applicable to job responsibilities in the performance of work.





Job Requirements:
  • Bachelors' degree and a minimum of 7 years experience in handling complex commercial liability claims with at least 5 of those years spent directly handling asbestos-related matters.
  • Strong level of expertise in commercial multi-line, multi-jurisdictional coverage, negligence principles, investigation, evaluation and negotiation techniques.
  • Superior level of experience in Litigation Management
  • Strong organizational skills and detail oriented.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize workload, handle multiple tasks simultaneously and exercise good judgment.
  • Working knowledge of General Liability claims handling practices with a concentration in complex asbestos litigation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including a strong ability to actively lead or participate in meetings, presentations, and seminars
  • Excellent customer service skills, with emphasis on accessibility and responsiveness.
  • Computer literacy, including experience in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Extensive knowledge of applicable regulations, legislation, and judicial decisions in relevant jurisdictions.
