The Business Process Consultant will perform the role of Product Owner (PO) on an Agile scrum team on the EPO Correspondence and Tech EMMA (Enterprise Member Material Application) Team for United Healthcare. You will assist the Product Manager and IT Delivery team in leading the business strategy for the EMMA platform which is a shared service platform that archives and searches millions of documents a day across all lines of business. The Product Owner owns, maintains and prioritizes the Product backlog for the SCRUM team. The Product Owner shares the product vision and works closely with the SCRUM Master and Delivery Manager to ensure the team delivers value to the business. The Business Product Owner will have accountability for delivery of product features and capabilities for the EMMA platform, maximizing new technologies and developing transformative capabilities for our internal teams and external constituents.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Promote and drive Agile development methodology throughout the team/s, providing direction and support to development and quality assurance teams
  • Define, prioritize, and drive realization of specific product vision
  • Accountable to represent business partners crossing functional areas to transform vision into requirements. Align and deliver objectives. Escalate blocking items to the Product Manager or Product Lead when applicable
  • Accountable for aligning business teams thru development of communications, socialization, and education of objectives and detailed requirements guiding team members to accomplish objectives
  • Serve as the 'voice of the customer' with delivery teams, representing/reinforcing the customer's perspective throughout the product realization cycle
  • Manage changing requirements and backlog priorities, continuously and transparently communicate prioritization of the Product Backlog and status with internal stakeholders
  • Reviews, accepts, and prioritizes feedback and new requirements from project stakeholders
  • Work with SCRUM Masters to help direct, motivate, and guide the delivery teams
  • Ensure that SCRUM Team deliverables meet agreed-upon standards for quality and non-functional requirements, and that the products meet the stated business need
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team of designers, business analysts, developers, testers and others to develop and execute against Product Roadmaps and Release Plans
  • Own, prioritize, and maintain the Product Backlog, including definition of features, user stories, and acceptance criteria
  • Break down feature-level user stories into detail-level stories consumable and testable by a SCRUM team
  • Collaborate with business partners in usability testing and the development of user design
  • Manage, prioritize, and assess the impact of defects, including providing key input on the decisions to fix or defer
  • Review and approve output of development to ensure specified acceptance criteria has been completed
  • Other duties, as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of leadership experience (or related positions) in the Health Care Industry
  • Maintains a basic knowledge of software development
  • Understand basic fundamentals of software development processes and procedures

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Product Owner Certification
  • 4+ years of technical experience in software development and delivery
  • 2+ years acting as a Product Owner for multiple SCRUM teams: Writing user stories and following the development process through user story acceptance
  • Aha! Knowledge and experience
  • Passion for customers and a demonstrated focus on customer experience
  • Energy, motivation, and commitment to drive to results in a challenging, fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to meet commitments, build consensus, negotiate resolutions, and garner respect from other teams
  • Ability to work with the team and the stakeholders to continuously improve the quality of the product backlog and ensure understanding of the items it contains
