What You'll Do

  • Brainstorm, develop and shape ideas for series.
  • Work closely with host and supporting producers to identify sources, subjects and interviews. 
  • Track down court documents, submit public records requests, find and secure archival tape.
  • Plan and execute field producing and reporting trips in collaboration with host and supervising producers.
  • Organize audio assets; selecting strongest tape with other team members.
  • Outline episodes and write scripts.
  • Cut tape, assemble mixes and score episodes.
  • What You'll Bring

  • A strong background in journalism with investigative expertise.
  • A minimum of four years of experience producing audio for radio or podcast.
  • Ability to structure a compelling and unique audio story, both editorially and technically (ProTools or other audio editing experience required).
  • Experience with serialized storytelling, including the ability to change direction as the reporting unfolds.
  • An ability to listen to raw tape and identify the details, plot points, and the need-to-hear moments that make a story.
  • Experience scripting audio stories.
  • Experience reporting in Indigenous communities will be an asset.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed approaches to interviewing and reporting on communities impacted by trauma and violence.
  • Empathy and strong interviewing skills for the stories of those affected by criminal acts, including victims, family members and others.
  • Love of narrative structure and genre conventions (all genres, not just crime).
  • Proficiency in field recording, with a variety of audio equipment.
  • A love of collaboration and teamwork.
