Reporting to the VP, Human Capital of the President & COO organization, the Talent Business Partner is responsible for developing and driving the end-to-end talent strategy and ensuring development of talent and leadership pipelines to support the growth across the President & COO organization. Working closely with senior leaders, Human Capital Partners, and talent COEs, this role will translate business objectives into strategic and actionable talent plans.

Primary Responsibilities:
Develops and executes an end-to-end talent strategy for the President & COO organizations inclusive of build, buy, and mobility strategies and tactics
Assesses leadership and key role pipeline health and works in collaboration with Human Capital and leadership teams to develop solutions to close gaps
Manages the President & COO organization succession planning process to ensure healthy succession pipelines for all senior leadership and critical roles
Facilitates robust talent reviews to continuously plan for talent in the business and development for executive positions
Grows a diverse leadership pipeline, with emphasis on growing representation of females and people of color in senior leader roles
Identifies high potential leaders at mid-career levels; actively engages and monitors their development, ensuring plans are in place and they are progressing
Partners with Talent Business Partners and Human Capital Partners across the organization to monitor and proactively build an internal senior leader talent pipeline
Serves as the liaison to the Talent Office for the President & COO organization Human Capital team, coordinating on initiatives and deliverables needed at the Optum or UHG level
Engages Talent Acquisition in proactive external talent pipelining and proactive internal slating where appropriate. Personally involved in fostering relationships with top internal talent and partners with TA on external talent
Designs and monitors custom executive onboarding / assimilation strategies and tactics to ensure effective acclimation to their new roles
Partners with Talent Acquisition teams to conduct market intelligence for critical roles and build effective sourcing, assessment, and hiring approaches. Ensures talent marketing and employee value proposition is aligned
Provides talent ramp up/down plans as needed including talent redeployment orchestration
Owns (in partnership with Talent Development and/or Human Capital Business Partners) the design, development, facilitation, and results measurement of business-specific, targeted leadership development programs
Helps manage the nomination/selection process for UHG or Optum programs and provides feedback on the effectiveness of programs and process
Plans and regularly reviews and shares talent analytics ensuring accurate, meaningful data and dashboards related to talent insights, evaluate programs, processes, and all talent-related activity
Partners with Optum’s Strategic Workforce Planning function to create a clear view of talent demand (growth, business objectives) and supply issues (risk of turnover, retirement, and workforce mobility) and incorporates into talent strategy
Actively engages in President & COO organization inclusion and diversity efforts
Builds career development strategies and related programs for critical segment talent groups

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field or equivalent work experience
  • 10+ years’ of experience in Human Capital in large matrixed organization with deep knowledge of business partnering, talent development, talent acquisition, executive-level recruiting, talent management, succession planning, and organization development to build integrated strategies
  • Deep knowledge of diversity and inclusion
  • Proven experience building a strategy with specific tactics and timelines, lead execution, and also drive others to collectively execute against those plans
  • Executive presence and the confidence to represent the human capital team and business. Clear, concise and transparent communicator
  • Proven experience setting ambitious goals for talent and the drive to achieve them despite many challenges or obstacles. Proactive and resourceful; self-motivated
  • Proven experience mentoring and coaching talent. Help leaders and Human Capital Partners build effective development plans for high potential leaders. Connect leaders to development resources
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint. This job requires “rolling up your sleeves” to get work done
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in HR, business, or learning & development
  • Experience thinking strategically and then develop and implement purposeful plans to achieve business goals
  • Results oriented
  • Proven track record of influencing without authority
