Summary

  • Job Summary The Inpatient Coding Auditor/Trainer will work with the Inpatient Coder Trainee, Inpatient Coder I, II and III to ensure that their coding is meeting Quality accuracy based on Coding Guidelines and other rules set forth to govern Coding practices. This includes the Official Coding Guidelines and AHA Coding Clinic for ICD 10 CM/PCS coding. The Inpatient Coding Auditor/Trainer will initiate ongoing training needs and will provide guidance with training and education to changes either via email/PowerPoint or via 3M Audit Expert Compliance Tool. They serve as the Coding expert in Inpatient Coding and are involved in Coding Leadership meetings. Their expertise is used to access new products, education changes and working with other departments to resolve issues.
  • Job Requirements Education Required: High school diploma or equivalent Experience Required: 5 years’ experience with hospital Inpatient Coding AND experience with encoders and other coding software. Preferred: 2 year’s experience of Inpatient Coding auditing. Skills Detailed knowledge of coding guidelines and the ability to apply coding guidelines when reviewing documentation in the medical record. Must have experience with detailed knowledge of the format, functions, and use of the medical record. Expert knowledge of ICD 10 CM/PCS classification systems. Detailed knowledge of DRG’s. Detailed knowledge of APC’s. Ability to perform computer data entry. Ability to work with others and communicate effectively. Licensure/Certification/Registration Required: AHIMA Approved Credential: RHIA, RHIT, or CCS OR AAPC Approved Credential: CIC Preferred: CCS
