Scope of Job:

The Site Reliability Engineer works closely with the software engineering teams to build continuous improvement into their processes and infrastructure to automate the testing and deployment of software components that include the frontend and backend services, as well as assist in educating others in the arts of automation. This position will take direction from the Principal Software Engineer, work closely with the teams to have complete ownership of cloud infrastructure and continuously optimize the implementation(s) as the company deploys more value driven initiatives. We are looking for someone that is a good mix of software and systems background, capable of being a jack-of-all-trades and a master of some, can demystify complexities of a system, and someone that is hands-on building all aspects of the software lifecycle.

Responsibilities:

80% - Primary job duties:

* Build and implement components of continuous improvement and delivery in all aspects of the work environment
* Drive deeper reliability to systems in production by continually improving our cloud infrastructure and supporting dependencies
* Explore and experiment with the limits of cloud technologies
* Work closely with engineering teams to integrate production infrastructure into existing workflow
* Build observability infrastructure
* Assist in key architecture design decisions and features of various software initiatives
* Contribute to the development/refinement of agile software engineering processes
* Share in the success of the teams you support

10% - Establish & participate in an SRE/Developer Community of Practice

10% - Other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Skills Required:

* 4+ years of experience designing and developing software solutions
* 4+ years of experience with public cloud infrastructure and provider services
* 4+ years of experience in leveraging various cybersecurity, monitoring, and alarming tools
* Experience in a cutting-edge site reliability role utilizing infrastructure automation (container orchestration technologies a plus)
* Fluency in a significant array of varied scripting and programming languages; including but not limited to Python and/or bash
* Experience with build and CI/CD pipelines
* Experience using Github Actions, ArgoCD, k8s, Istio, Prometheus, Thanos is a plus
* You understand the benefits of reducing toil.
* You have supported large enterprise production distributed systems.
* You are passionate about high availability, observability, and performance.
* You are proficient at querying various databases and interacting with APIs directly
* You can effectively mentor other SRE staff and software engineers on deployment, support, and interaction with enterprise architecture. You have a desire to design yourself out of your role.
* You are flexible, resilient, and curious
* You draw inspiration from prior art, but you feel compelled to innovate beyond it
* You respectfully challenge your peers, and welcome the opportunity when others challenge you
* You have a deep interest in learning and mastering concepts in next generation infrastructures and practices
* Bonus points for experience utilizing GPU cores in a k8s environment
* Bonus points for experience supporting sub-fields of AI/machine learning like neural nets, deep learning, computer vision, and NLP

Working Conditions:

Approximately 90% of time is spent in the office environment, utilizing computers (frequent use of various software/programs), phones, and general office equipment.

Approximately 5-10% of the time is spent at project sites and travelling to other EDFR locations, potentially including international travel.
