Position description
The primary goal of this position is to perform individual work, and/or to help lead project-oriented teams, to evaluate, analyze and develop new business opportunities for Mayo Clinic, including but not limited to partnerships, joint ventures, new company spin-offs, mergers & acquisitions, equity investments and/or other types of collaboration. In addition, the position may help evaluate the commercial potential of a variety of inventions/discoveries, and then identify, develop and help source new technology commercialization opportunities, in conjunction with technology licensing managers, patent liaisons and attorneys, treasury services, and other ventures-focused staff. Additional skills and responsibilities, either through individual work contribution or through working within and helping to lead project-oriented teams, may include: contributions to strategic planning and prioritization, business plan creation, due diligence, market research, marketing plan development, concept analysis, business model development, financial pro-forma development and analysis, valuations, legal/regulatory issues assessment, and monitoring product/operating unit performance. Successful candidate will maintain familiarity and work in alignment with the overall Mayo Clinic strategic plan, prioritized market opportunities, and competitive activity, in addition to focusing within their assigned strategic area of focus. The position works with areas throughout Mayo Clinic and the marketplace to identify new business opportunities, including the ability to connect these activities with existing Mayo Clinic operational units. To this end, successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the development of a network of industry, entrepreneurial and investor contacts to serve as a resource for business development and/or commercialization activities. Success in the role will be primarily related to the incumbent’s ability to shepherd an opportunity from concept to final disposition, and in contributing to the messaging and consensus-building required to reach decisions in a highly-matrixed academic medical center environment.



Qualifications
The successful candidate must possess an MBA or the equivalent, and/or an advanced degree in a relevant field (e.g.,PhD, MD, JD), and a minimum 8 years' relevant work experience. Must be able to demonstrate successful corporate development work, including a deal sheet/transaction list. Candidates must have experience or expertise in one (or more) of the strategic areas of focus (“verticals”):
• Laboratory Medicine/Diagnostics or related industries/markets
• IT Platform/Digital Health/Artificial Intelligence/Data Asset Strategy
• International (outside U.S.) opportunity evaluation, corporate development project and opportunity development
• Practice operations and/or new business line growth and any associated transactions
• Large-opportunity development related to any of the above areas, resulting in high-value, high-visibility outcomes
NOTE: This role will focus on, and report to a Corporate Development Executive department leader for one of the above “verticals”; therefore candidates should make clear via cover letter or other communication which specific “vertical” they are interested in, if it is not self-evident in the CV/resume itself.
Previous experience with a national or regional
consulting firm, financial institution, academic medical center, or Corporate Development team of a large national or multinational relevant industry company may be viewed especially favorably. Must have the demonstrated ability to manage complex inter- and intra-organizational issues and relationships. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact with a variety of different people with diverse backgrounds. Requires demonstrated skills in financial and strategic analysis, valuation, project management, time management and the ability to manage several initiatives simultaneously.




Additional qualifications
Entrepreneurial/intrapreneurial qualities; strong analytical skills; resourceful
and able to work independently on assigned projects. An advanced degree in a scientific discipline (e.g.: life sciences) healthcare administration and/or Chartered Financial Analyst certification (CFA) (complete or in progress) are pluses.

Compensation Detail
Required education, experience, and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The salary range every 2 weeks is approx. $4,684.80 -$7,026.40 based on a full-time position.
