RailWorks is seeking an Assistant Controller to join our team! This role is based out of NYC, but can sit remotely.
The Assistant Controller supports the Controller in all areas including corporate reporting, financial planning and analysis, taxation, and budget preparation/forecasting. Ensures company accounting procedures conform to generally accepted accounting principles and that internal policies and controls are followed.
Primary/Essential Responsibilities and Duties
· Assists with the preparation of financial analyses, outlooks and forecasts
· Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal budgetary reporting requirements
· Works with department managers and corporate staff to develop budgets and business plans
· Supervises accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll
· Manages accounting procedures and ensures compliance with internal controls including Company policies, GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley
· Audits work flow to assure that all accounting transactions are appropriately authorized
· Substantiates and justifies expenditures and expense reports
· Supervises and/or prepares monthly journal entries
· Prepares financial statements
· Supervises and/or prepares general ledger reconciliations
· Manages and reviews monthly closing process
· Manages and assists with financial audits
General/Other Responsibilities and Duties
· Prepares internal reports and works on special projects as requested
· Assists with hiring, training, and managing staff
Required Skills and Qualifications
· Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting; Master's Degree and CPA preferred
· A minimum of 4 years senior-level finance or accounting experience, construction industry experience preferred
· Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles
· Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems
· Knowledge of federal, state and local financial regulations
· Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections
· Working knowledge of short and long term budgeting and forecasting
· Ability to perform with a high level of discretion, professionalism, and integrity
· Ability to effectively train and manage staff
· Ability to manage multiple projects within tight timeframes
· Strong interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills
· Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office suite with advanced Excel skills
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
· Works in an office environment
· Frequently sits for long periods of time
· Frequently speaks, reads, writes and uses a computer keyboard
· May require occasional standing, walking, lifting, stooping, or bending
