The Lead Data Scientist will manage multiple data science projects including but not limited to assessing business needs, research, identifying data science opportunities, designing, developing innovative methodologies, data modeling, evaluating and execution to solve complex business problems in alignment with organizational goals and objectives using independent judgement. You will lead data scientist whowill also integrate with cross functional teams and manage stakeholders. As the Lead Data scientists you will be a technical leader who is able to bring in new technologies and implement across organization. You will be responsible for advising and mentoring junior data scientists and analysts.

Essential Functions

  • Lead multiple concurrent projects and accommodate frequent interruptions and changing priorities and ability to make independent decisions
  • Partner with cross functional teams to assess complex business needs and design business experiments by understanding the organizational goals and objectives
  • Communicate actionable insights and integrate multiple analytical projects to solve business problems in an efficient manner and understand the effectiveness of interventions
  • Proactively identify and communicate roadblocks. Evaluate and suggest alternatives to overcome.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, data analysts, data engineers and visualization developers on analytical projects to complete the data science life cycle in a successful manner
  • Implementation of new data science technologies across the enterprise
  • Effectively lead meetings with customers and guide discussion and decision making.
  • Identify, define and translate complex business needs/problems into analytical questions by working directly with cross functional business partners along with project scope and project management.
  • Design and execute advanced machine learning experiments, models, algorithms, and visualizations independently understand data sources and limitations, warehousing system and the impact of the data on business decisions and propose new data sources that can be utilized for advanced analytics based on research
  • Identify, retrieve, and manipulate structured and unstructured data from internal and external datasets
  • Apply advanced and innovative statistical and computational methodologies to provide actionable insights and identify strategic opportunities that optimize quality, consumer experience, and healthcare costs.
  • Develop scalable, efficient, and automated processes for large scale data analyses and model development, validation, and implementation.
  • Implement business feedback loop into the developed models and also develop automated process to evaluate models performance from time to time 
  • Write technical reports, white papers, and publications.
  • Stay current on new processes and technology in Data Science and provide findings on advanced analytical and computational methodologies to other Data Scientists and analysts.
  • Responsible for developing talent and effectively leading small teams.
  • Required Skills:

  • 7+ years related work experience in a Data Scientist or similar role
  • Related Bachelor’s degree or additional related equivalent work experience Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Computer science (e.g. specialization: Machine learning/Artificial Intelligence /Visualization, databases, and Big Data), Statistics, Epidemiology, Health Services Research, or closely related field with Data Science specialization
  • Requires experience with statistical packages – 4-7 years of SAS /R/Python, SAS EG, and SAS EM. Also requires experience in SQL, Tableau/any visiualization tool (Power BI).
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong willingness and emerging ability to lead projects and manage project phases or smaller projects in their entirety (includes project management).
  • Ability to partner with customers across the organization to assess needs and define business questions. Influencing customers to take action on analytical insights.
  • Ability to communicate results and insights, both verbally and written (including visual graphics), in a clear and concise manner to a non-technical audience.
  • Must have applied experience with advanced statistics e.g. predictive analytics models
  • Must have applied experience in Machine Learning
  • Must have experience in Visual analytics
  • Experience with large data sets
  • Excel/PowerPoint skills (including visual graphics)
  • Must have experience working with other teams - IT, product, data warehousing etc
  • Must have strong teamwork and collaborative skills
  • Ability to prioritize work, independently
  • Ability to prioritize projects and resource planning
  • Proven ability to meet and exceed deadlines
  • Strong decision making ability
  • Ability to influence decision makers
  • Clear proven track record of creating strong actionable insights that drive decision making and business process
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Experience interacting with, and presenting to, customers
  • Experience managing projects from end-to-end, including project plan development
  • Preferred Skills:

  • Master’s degree Applied Mathematics, Computer science (e.g. specialization: Machine learning/Artificial Intelligence /Visualization, databases, and Big Data), Statistics, Epidemiology, Health Services Research, or closely related field with Data Science specialization
  • Experience in Big Data - e.g. Hadoop
  • Experience with other tools –e.g. Tableau, R, and Netezza
  • Business Intelligence tool development
  • Other programming experience - Java, Perl, Python, UNIX/Linux scripting
  • Healthcare, medical, or pharmaceutical work experience
  • Experience with analysis around quality, consumer experience, and healthcare costs
  • SAS certification
  • Experience in consumer analytics
  • Experience in advanced business analytics
  • General Physical Demands
