Health care research staff members research, analyze, write, and present at least two research studies per year. Studies identify and explore salient issues and industry trends that are of universal and vital importance to the membership. Studies typically examine the forces that have shaped the current state of the industry and offer projections regarding its evolution and future. By modeling best-demonstrated practices and organizational structures of the world's most progressive organizations, studies provide our member institutions with a set of feasible practices and future vision.

Consultants assume an integral role in moving the substance of major research studies and speeches forward and provide intellectual leadership within teams. Consultants provide analytical direction and guidance throughout all stages of study cycle, working through extensive primary and secondary research, hypothesis generation and testing, rigorous analysis of findings, and the final presentation of ideas. Consultants are placed on teams based on experience, need, timing, and placement preference. Our research teams focus on best practice business and operations research across the health care spectrum, including programs focused in the provider, payer, and life sciences space. This position is part of the Advisory Board, a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group. Advisory Board is based in Washington, D.C., but you have the option to enjoy the flexibility to telecommute from anywhere within United States as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Key skills developed in the Consultant role include the following: Strategic and root cause analysisInductive and deductive reasoningHypothesis generationAbility to formulate and defend original points of viewSynthesis of complex ideasPersuasive writingEffective use of graphics and visuals to communicate ideas and information
  • Examples of recent research initiatives include: Future hospital purchasing prioritiesHardwiring patient serviceBest practices in recruiting and retaining hospital staff
  • You’ll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.

    Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 4+ years of relevant experience
  • 3+ months of work or internship experience in professional setting
  • Experience conducting longterm research OR conducting primary and secondary research
  • Knowledge of indepth report writing
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA, MPH, or other advanced degree
  • Ability to quickly determine appropriate analyses and direct analysts to conduct them
  • Experience working with clients in a consultative role
  • Experience working on the clinical or business sides of health care
  • Experience conducting rootcause analysis
