Position Overview:

As the Regional Underwriting Scenario Specialist, you will be responsible for providing fast and friendly guidance to all employees by way of in-person and virtual communications. Detail-oriented critical thinker who can take initiative and work with others to efficiently and effectively meet turn times and maintain customer satisfaction within a region. The Regional Underwriting Scenario Specialist acts as the central point of contact for Loan Officers and Loan Processors to provide a thorough understanding of product and policy guidelines and the ability to clearly articulate these guidelines. This guidance ranges from answering “how-to” questions, providing investor specific guidelines, reviewing, and analyzing income scenarios/documentation and assisting in detailed loan structure/scenario questions.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Daily loan support for all company employees via a ticketing system, inbound phone calls, email and in person for underwriting/loan scenario-based questions and communication.
  • Reviewing and responding to general underwriting scenarios.
  • Assist Loan Officers and Loan Processors in finding answers regarding loan eligibility and lending guidelines.
  • Analyzing various underwriting scenarios and suggesting potential alternate options with different investors.
  • Review and analyze complex income documentation, including personal and business tax return and provide calculations to be used for qualifying.
  • Create technical documentation, system documentation, “how to” guides, FAQ’s and self-help references.
  • Track tasks, activities and time spent within the ticketing system and meet expected turn-times.
  • Participate in all Underwriting Department, Regional and Sales calls as directed by management, and hold own calls as deemed necessary by management.
  • Assist with training sales or processing staff in areas where they need additional guidance.
  • Collaborate among team members and work effectively in a team-oriented environment and open communication amongst other departments.
  • Maintaining a strong focus on continued growth and learning of essential underwriting knowledge.
  • Maintain all UW designations, as applicable.
  • Assist with other responsibilities and projects as identified by management.
  • Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 4+ years of recent mortgage underwriting experience, underwriting to multiple agency and investor guidelines.
  • Government underwriting experience with designations preferred (FHA and VA).
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates analytical thinking - analyzes information, identifies key issues, and draws logical conclusions; identifies the root causes of problems and develops solutions.
  • Strategic thinker - identifies opportunities to achieve goals while anticipating impacts and consequences to the business; sees the "big picture".
  • Ability to learn and navigate complex proprietary software platforms.
  • Must be able to work independently in a fast-paced, goal-oriented environment.
  • Must be flexible and adaptable to changing business needs.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service in person, on the phone and via ticketing system.
  • Knowledge and experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
