We are looking for a new team member who can bring product-market viability ideas that inspire, innovate and deliver elevated experiences for our athletes, teammates and products.

We are looking for a talented Group UX Designer to lead the In-Store Inventory and Fulfillment Experience Design Group.  You will lead a group of designers and lead the definition our end-to-end design strategy to create great experiences for athletes and teammates.  You will become part of a balanced group leadership team that focuses on improving the In-Store Experience through effective use of design thinking frameworks and building technology to reach business and product goals.

You will be accountable to discover key problems that introduce friction into our experience for athletes and teammates at DICK’s Sporting Goods.  You will lead research to identify the top problems, ideate on lean experiments to validate potential solutions, and work with your product and engineering peers to discover ways to improve experience in creative and new ways.

The Group UX Designer is a highly capable design leader who drives the development of an end-to-end strategy and vision for a group of products. This role works closely with the Distinguished UX Designer to continuously build the practice of UX Design, including the use of standard frameworks, methodologies and execution.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

 

Develop an End-to-End Strategy & Vision

As a Group UX Designer, you will be accountable for establishing an end-to-end design vision, strategy and journey for a group of products. To successfully do so, you will be required to collaborate with your team of Designers, your peers in the Group Product Manager and Engineering Manager roles, business stakeholders, Program Managers, Scrum Masters, Foundational Tech teams and both Tech and Business leadership.

You must understand your business, driving the right product / market fit through an obsession over our customer and teammate needs, competition, analytics, and emerging technologies. You will leverage these inputs and lead your team of UX Designers to define and execute strategies across a group of 2-4 product teams. As an influencer over these strategies, you must effectively articulate the vision, value, and associated challenges to leadership teams and the broader organization.

In this role, you will regularly provide experience design input, including reporting and insights, to stakeholders and leadership along with strategies to improve the product experience. As a leader over a group of products, you will be called upon to make tough decisions balancing risks versus reward, performing behavioral analysis against revenue potential, making decisions based on evidence while always keeping your user at the center of everything. You will work with your teammates and peers to craft solid go-to-market strategies and continuously deliver while embracing lean product methodologies across a broader group of products; subscribing to the philosophy of fail fast, learn and iterate.

Reporting to the Director of Product Management & UX Design, you will advise on how to cross-functionally enable a culture of experimentation and lean methodologies that can be applied to validating behaviors and assumptions across the end-to-end product journey. You and your Group Product Manager will work closely and collaboratively with other portfolio teams as well as program management to ensure cross-functional initiatives are prioritized accordingly. As a leader in the space, you will be a driving factor in influencing the overall Technology Portfolio design process, embracing lean and human-centered design methodologies. 

 

Teammate Management & Development

As a Group UX Designer, you will provide leadership, mentoring and coaching to a team of 3-6 UX Designers with varying levels of experience, as well as serve as an escalation point for addressing critical actions or issues within the team. You will need to have a solid understanding of the functional space and be capable enough to fill the role of UX Designer for any direct report as needed due to vacation or other related absence. You will own recruiting for your team and partner with the Distinguished UX Designer to ensure that new teammates receive the proper on-boarding.

As a manager, you will be required to conduct annual and mid-year reviews for each individual teammate, as well as be responsible for their on-going professional development throughout the year and any formalized development plans as needed; looking for opportunities to expose teammates to career interests and training. You will define metrics and evaluate teammate performance individually, within the team and the broader portfolio to ensure objectives are consistently met or exceeded.

As a leader at DICK’S Sporting Goods, you must be able to build a positive culture where teammates are excited to work; fostering collaboration with teammates to drive consistency across their product teams. You will be expected to ensure there is alignment across the greater UX Design organization as well; guiding teammates in their functional area and helping them grow in the practice of UX Design.

 

Drive Design Frameworks, Methodologies & Execution

As a Group UX Designer, you must be highly skilled in UX Design practices including facilitation, Discovery, Framing, design vision and strategy development, identifying user segments and personas, lean experimentation and prototyping, storytelling, leveraging a design system, minimum viable product identification, establishing product / market fit, establishing and measuring key performance indicators, exploring emerging technologies, and understanding all aspects of the end-to-end product journey, including user and systems-based workflows.

A portion of your role will be to assess the state of UX Design within your group-level organization and develop plans to ensure the practice is executed to its fullest potential. You will work closely with the Distinguished UX Designer to leverage this knowledge to enable and coach your team of UX Designers and familiarize stakeholders with these same practices.

As a leader in the UX Design practice, you will be called upon to provide key input into the formation of frameworks, methodologies and best practices. You must be an advocate for research and design thinking practices within your product teams.

  • Top notch presentation skills, effective storytelling methods when communicating.
  • Ability to gather data insights to formulate strategic product decisions during all phases of the product life cycle.    
  • Proven track record of managing and leading high-performing teams that have delivered innovative, world-class products and engaging experiences. Preferably in a retail environment.
  • Detailed experience with agile methodologies & frameworks, lean product management, human-centered design and modern software development practices.     
  • Ability to understand and target opportunities within the end-to-end product journey to inform decisions and delivering high-performing results.
  • Requires a strategic and empathetic leader, who is highly motivated and accountable to deliver outstanding product experiences centered around the customer that achieve KPIs, including revenue, conversion and customer satisfaction.   
  • Experience with the standard software tools used in UX Design, including Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Cloud, Miro, Qualtrics, Optimal Workshop, wikis, digital whiteboards and prototyping tools.
Qualifications

  • 7 - 10 years of relevant experience
