Sales position has overall accountability for the distribution of the Specialty Benefit's products in the national accounts market segment. This position's primary responsibility is the development and execution of sales strategies that will drive profitable revenue expansion in assigned local national account market segments for UnitedHealthcare Specialty Products. This position will work collaboratively across the organization in achieving revenue and profit goals through the new business sales of standalone specialty product sales and combined sales with medical products. In addition, this position will be accountable for delivering the sales goal for the assigned market. This will include direct prospecting as well as working with consultants in the assigned region as well as working in partnership with peers in the Specialty Health plan.

If you are located within the Northeast Region (preferably NYC), you will have the flexibility to telecommute* as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Active engagement in the overall development of the distribution strategies for assigned product lines in the assigned National Account territory
  • Establish sales objectives and develop competitive strategies for execution within assigned large case market
  • Develops and executes a consultant distribution strategy consistent with UHCs short / long range goals and business plans
  • Develop annual sales plans and execute strategies for your assigned territory. This includes monitoring productivity in order to achieve expected sales results
  • Develop key internal and external relationship in assigned territory to facilitate results. Understand and strategize based on analysis and reporting of sales and market trends, including sales plan execution, competitive activity and new product requirements
  • Establish effective partnerships with UnitedHealthcare National Accounts Medical Sales that maximizes the opportunity to sell Specialty Benefit products in conjunction with medical insurance
  • Work with other UHG business units to facilitate joint sales opportunities
  • Collaborate with the Product Leaders and functional organizations in the development of and enhancement of current products, services and customer offerings to capitalize on opportunities
  • Responsible for providing direction, expertise and feedback to all sales support staff in assigned region
  • Demonstrate consistent activity disciplines to maximize new business development and assure consistent pipeline growth
  • Demonstrate solid leadership qualities and organizational skills to maximize sales force effectiveness
  • Advocate for specialty voluntary products to support increase in enrollment and size of sale and negotiate based on broker / customer feedback with underwriting and negotiate packaged savings to leverage the best value to the customer
  • Consult with broker and health plan sales teams on strategy calls related to specialty products and process and develop and/or deliver finalist and large broker presentations as specialty subject matter expert
  • Conduct in-depth presentations in market
  • Create and drive strategies for top specialty producing agencies and Brokers
  • Educates sales support on quoting plan designs & product pre-implementation
  • Assisting Medical SVP, Medical SCEs and Standalone Specialty SCEs in developing sales proposals, including anticipating competing products
  • Work collaboratively with Medical SVP, Medical SCEs and Standalone Specialty SCEs to support sales, product and process education, and training on employer paid and voluntary specialty products
  • This position works collaboratively with the above mentioned associates on external sales calls representing ancillary product offerings and distinguishing UHC's products from those competing products
  • Sales insurance license(s) must be maintained as required by state law in residential and non-residential states in your territory

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree
  • 7+ years of experience in a large, complex and successful ancillary insurance organization with responsibilities for sales and distribution of vision, dental, financial protections (critical illness, accident & hospital) and other ancillary products
  • Experience meeting or exceeding sales goals, particularly with specialty products
  • Experience negotiating and closing sales
  • Presenting our services and solutions at prospect meetings
  • Solid strategic focus, analytical, internal control and project -management skills
  • Experience assessing problems and implementing solutions based on sound marketing, operational and financial principles
  • Familiarity with aspects of ancillary sales and marketing along with a solid understanding of the impact of sales activities on operational functions and profitability
  • Experience analyzing complex sales programs and developing creative solutions to a wide variety of unique market problems
  • Advanced consultative selling skills with the ability to successfully construct solutions for complex organizations
  • Experience influencing effectively in a large matrixed environment

Preferred Qualification:

  • Post-graduate degree in business administration, Marketing or related field
