Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently seeking a Meteorologist to join our Operational Weather Forecasting Team, providing 24/7 meteorological services to terrestrial-based and marine-based clients. The position is open for candidates to work remotely anywhere in Canada. Individuals located near our main offices, located in St. John's, NL or Ottawa, ON will also be considered.

Our Met-Ocean Services Group has over 20 years of experience providing meteorological and oceanographic services in Canada and various international locations. We are weather, climate and ocean experts, mitigating financial and safety risk for clients whose businesses are sensitive to high-impact weather events or severe ocean conditions.

The position will be supporting forecasting clients across North America and worldwide with detailed consultation and customized weather services. This is a permanent, full-time position with a rotating day / night shift role (50% nighttime work and 50% daytime work). Key Responsibilities

  • Produce weather forecasts, several times daily, for multiple industry sector clients using a variety of tools and software
  • Provide high-quality meteorological analysis for clients who have access to Wood's 24/7 on- demand phone consultation services
  • Perform an in-depth weather watch for customers and keep them informed of evolving weather conditions/hazards
  • Provide severe weather alerting across North America and conduct severe event-post analysis to determine better prediction and best response for future events


Skills / Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or the equivalent educational and operational experience
  • Operational weather analysis and forecasting experience is considered an asset.
  • The qualified candidate must possess strong communication skills along with the ability to make and support logical decisions based upon past and present meteorological information
  • The qualified candidate must possess strong time management skills in order to meet deadlines during evolving weather systems or client sensitive operations
  • Must be able to accommodate rotating day / night shifts
  • Must be willing to work weekends/holidays/overtime
  • Bilingual fluency in English and French is preferred but not required
  • Preference to work a higher proportion of night shifts would be considered an asset but is not required
