Description

In this role you’ll be responsible for setting UX strategy for applications that support UPMC Health Plan’s clinical strategy for population health management. You will guide and collaborate with a team of UX designers to translate concepts into product UIs and other aspects of the user experience through user research, conceptual design, concept evaluation, and usability testing. You’ll own and oversee execution of visual, information, interaction, and service design elements, ensuring they meet business needs and delight clinical and other users. You’ll communicate product design to business partners and executives through user journeys, storyboards, prototypes, wireframes, and other materials.

Responsibilities:

Design, Discovery and Delivery:

Exhibit exceptional understanding of human-centered design best practices, standards, and methods. Drive and participate in the entire product experience and user interface design process, championing prioritization of design-centered product features and UIs grounded in research and analysis. Participate in discovery and definition of users' and/or business problems, pain points and opportunities, and offer guidance on feasibility and implementation of solutions from a UX standpoint. Communicate complex ideas in an easy to digest format through effective storytelling and a variety of approaches, including process and user flows, journey maps, storyboards, and interactive conceptual prototypes designed to drive out requirements.

Leadership:

As the UX expert on the product team, embrace and advocate for an experience mindset. Lead all aspects of user experience design projects from planning through implementation in a lean-agile environment. Collaborate with product managers to streamline the UX design process, clearly communicating goals and timeframes to product and development leaders and UX designers embedded within the stream-aligned development teams.

Provide process and quality guidance to and collaborate with the UX designers, guiding them as they translate conceptual designs into wireframes and UX requirement artifacts for development teams. Mentor, guide, and direct them to identify opportunities for research and usability testing of designs. Assist with and oversee design critiques of the UX team's work, with a keen eye for ensuring consistency and quality of design approach and deliverables. Improve design operations and repeatable design best practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in User Experience, Design, Human and Computer Interaction, or related field.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • 4 years of experience applying user research methods, or related experience
  • 4 + years of experience as an information architect, interaction designer, or experience designer (or similar role).
  • 2 + years of supervisory experience desired
  • Ability to develop big ideas, and collaborate to execute successfully.
  • Experience conducting user research and translating user research into design decisions.
  • Experience using web analytics data to inform design decisions.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
