Job Description
BAE Systems seeks a Lead Mechanical Engineer with substantial Gun Hardened experience. In this role they will lead design activities as well as teams within our Precision Striking & Sensing Solutions business area. This role will require an engineer with proven technical and leadership skills, who will mentor more junior members of the team. It is essential that this individual be capable of working in a diverse remote work environment.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
As an engineer, you will provide project and discipline guidance to ensure successful execution of program plans and accomplishment of departmental goals. You'll execute research, development, and consulting assignments of a professional technical nature where extensive and diversified knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and practices is necessary to successfully accomplish general goals and objectives.

Required Job Skills include:

  1. Can define and drive design/test strategy for team on gun launched munition
  2. Gun launch munition design and testing expertise, high G loading
  3. Structural design experience/background and experience with nonlinear explicit dynamic structural analysis
  4. Solid leadership - understands balance of technical & schedule along with team coordination / motivation skills
  5. Track record of driving to closure with exceptional organization skills
  6. Strong technical communication – to execution team, company leaders, and with customers


Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
As a mechanical engineer within the Precision Striking & Sensing Solutions business area, you will be involved with the design of hardware for gun-launched, guided projectile programs. You will have the opportunity to lead the design of innovative solutions that will be used in the challenging artillery gun launched environment. You will be integral in the mechanical design for projectiles is the design or selection of components for structures, radomes, bearings and electronic/electro-mechanical/opto-mechanical components & devices including but not limited to: processors, crystal based devices (i.e., oscillators), discrete components, antennas, motors, sensors, and batteries.

Preferred Job Skills include:
  1. Proven Lead Mechanical Engineer on gun launched munition programs
  2. Experience with artillery gun-launch design verification test methods
  3. Experience in thermal design for survivability including aero-thermal loading
  4. Experience designing for manufacturability including automated assembly
  5. Active Secret Clearance
