The FedEx Transportation Management (FTM) Market Development Manager (MDM) solicits, establishes, develops, and secures strategic accounts for FTM to help achieve the division’s Revenue and Profit growth objectives. The MDM has primary responsibility for generating and closing new sales leads for FTM’s Managed Transportation service and Supply Chain Engineering Consulting services. In securing accounts, the MDM creates the FTM strategy and collaborates efforts across all business development teams and across the required FedEx operating companies. Responsible for delivering profitable opportunities that align with FTM service capabilities and sales strategy.


  • Responsible for selling market competitive Managed Transportation and Supply Chain Engineering Consulting solutions to targeted industries. Identifies, qualifies, and secures revenue that supports and drives our business objectives and sales plan. Individual annual revenue responsibility. 
  • Works through the Sales process in conjunction with World Wide Account Managers, Field Sales, Corporate Accounts, Solutions, Finance, Legal, IT, Operations and Customer Strategy and Engagement.
  • Maintain a thorough and current understanding of solution offerings and value propositions for FedEx Logistics.
  • Create a sales plan to identify, solicit, meet, collaborate, and deliver opportunities for targeted services. Analyze and interface with Operations, Customer Strategy and Engagement, and Solutions to: complete requests for proposals, determine appropriate customer interaction, accommodate the contracting process and meet business objectives. The MDM will support, justify, persuade, defend, negotiate, or resolve matters involving significant aspects of a customer engagement. Work at this level usually involves active participation in conferences, meetings, or presentations involving customer requirements and business capabilities. The MDM will review and be responsible for effectively managing the Proposal and final submission. 
  • Work directly with other FedEx Operating Companies to accommodate customer needs and corporate goals. Collaborate with other departments to ensure customer needs and corporate goals are satisfied.
  • Maintain Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system(s) to accurately reflect customer activity, contact information and opportunities. Work extensively with MS Office products (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access) to effectively present and share information both internally and externally.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Master’s degree in a related field preferred.
  • 4+ years of progressive, related experience in selling transportation 3PL, 4PL or related consultancy.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Managed Transportation, Supply Chain Engineering Consulting solutions and other supply chain solutions (domestic and international applications) as well as a general knowledge of FedEx Logistic’s other services.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively engage, interface and communicate at the C-level and senior management level of our target customers.
  • Demonstrated organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – verbal and written.
  • Ability to travel (including international) up to70%. (Hold and maintain a valid driver’s license and passport.)
