Hi, we're Oscar. We're hiring an Associate to join our Learning and Instructional Design team.

Oscar is the first health insurance company built around a full stack technology platform and a relentless focus on serving our members. We started Oscar in 2012 to create the kind of health insurance company we would want for ourselves—one that behaves like a doctor in the family.

About the role:

The L&D team is responsible for the development of Oscar employees through a variety of learning programs and experiences. We are a collaborative and passionate team.

The Learning & Instructional Design Associates play a central role in understanding the subject matter for their assigned client group, designing and delivering innovative e-learning experiences, and overseeing quality and delivery from other instructional designers for learning assets related to their clients.

Ideally, Associates joining the team bring with them experience and expertise in one or more of the client domains. Top performing Associates bring creativity and energy to the work while maintaining attention to detail and high bar for quality.

You will report into the Senior Learning Programs Manager. This is a remote role, you will work remotely in one of the following states: Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, or Washington. Note, this list of states is subject to change.

Responsibilities:

Facilitation

  • Facilitate onboarding curriculum to Oscar employees, both general onboarding and for extended, role-specific onboardings (e.g., Concierge Care Guides).
  • Design and facilitate train-the-trainer sessions.
  • Complete assessments with new hires to assess progress against onboarding plans; provide feedback to new hires and managers.
  • Instructional Design.

  • Design and build learning assets and activities, incorporating adult learning theory within content, in multiple modalities (mobile, computer-based, classroom, virtual, multimedia), and leveraging best-in-class e-learning authoring software and tools, such as Articulate, Captivate, or Lectora.
  • Own the full end-to-end development of learning assets that fall in your book of work, including authoring computer-based content; development of animation and learner interaction/activity; recording/editing of audio/visual elements; and any programming and scripting to enable enhanced learner experiences such as customization, branching, gamification, etc.
  • As needed, engage with third party vendors to support the design of learning packages and curricula, including providing vendors with technical direction and specifications.
  • Manage troubleshooting, knowledge management, and supplemental assets (e.g., job aids) related to e-learning assets within your book of work.
  • Design and develop learning assets to supplement core curriculum (e.g., role plays, self- assessments, training manuals, job aids, and visual aids)..
  • Relationship Management

  • Partner with Senior Learning Program Managers, the People Strategy/HR Business Partner, and business line managers to ensure you have buy-in and stakeholder support and engagement.
  • Build solid working relationships with content subject matter experts (SMEs) and business line managers who will work on content development and review.
  • Program Management

  • Manage program overviews and roadmaps, project plans, and quality checks for learning programs and assets within your book of work.
  • Schedule training sessions for new hires. Ensure training is prompt, efficient, and run smoothly.
  • Manage any necessary communications with participants, and track where participants are within multi-day programs.
  • Manage development of training from conception to production; coordinate content sign-off.
  • Quickly identify if there are problems in the process, escalate to management with potential solutions in mind.
  • Requirements:

  • You can build strong partnerships with business line managers and stakeholders.
  • Experience facilitating content for virtual and in-person learning experiences.
  • Intermediate capabilities with e-learning authoring tools like Articulate, Captivate, Lectora, etc.
  • Experience designing and delivering programs based on adult learning principles.
  • 3+ years experience in a corporate environment, preferably within a client domain.
  • 3+ years experience in L&D and instructional design.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of professional experience.
  • Bonus points:

  • Masters degree or certifications in adult learning or learning technologies a plus.
  • Life at Oscar:

At Oscar, being an Equal Opportunity Employer means more than upholding discrimination-free hiring practices. It means that we cultivate an environment where people can be their most authentic selves and find both belonging and support. We're on a mission to change health care -- an experience made whole by our unique backgrounds and perspectives.

We encourage our members to care for their whole selves, and we encourage our employees to do the same with comprehensive medical benefits, generous paid-time off, paid parental leave, retirement plans, company social events, stocked kitchens, wellness programs, and volunteer opportunities.
